The Benetton B189B, which appeared at the opening race of the 1990 season, the United States Grand Prix, was a refined version of the previous year's B189. Developed as a bridge to the new B190 that would be introduced from the following race, it demonstrated high competitiveness from the opening race thanks to an improved Ford Cosworth HBA4 V8 engine and detailed aerodynamic updates. This model reproduces the 1990 United States Grand Prix specification driven by three-time world champion Nelson Piquet in his first race after joining Benetton. He qualified in 6th place and finished 4th in the race at the Phoenix street circuit, making a good start in his new team.
