About the actual vehicle
The Tiger II, King Tiger, equipped with a 71-caliber 8.8cm tank gun, was one of the most powerful tanks of World War II and feared by the Allied forces. Production began in 1943. During the development stage, both Henschel and Porsche were in charge of prototypes. Early production models were equipped with a Porsche-type turret that adopted a curved design on the front of the turret and were called the Porsche turret type. The Porsche turret King Tiger was said to have been described by Hitler as the most beautiful tank, but its shape was prone to causing the shot trap phenomenon when hit by enemy shells, so it was changed to a more linear Henschel-designed turret. Only about 50 Porsche turret-equipped tanks were produced.
In the later stages of the war, many German tanks were seen with Zimmerit coating applied to the hull as a countermeasure against magnetic anti-tank mines. Standardized in 1943, it is said that all King Tiger tanks equipped with the Porsche turret were shipped from the factory with the coating already applied.
About the Model
This is a new kit from the Dragon brand, based on a masterpiece kit previously released by Dragon.
This is a 1/35 scale plastic model assembly kit that reproduces the King Tiger Porsche turret, known for its curved turret design. This kit reproduces the Zimmerit coating applied to the upper hull, rear, and turret. The realistic reproduction of the size and pattern of the coating gives the finished product a sense of weight and texture. Of course, each part, such as the lower hull, upper hull, turret, and running gear, is reproduced in detail. The commander's cupola on the turret is accurately modeled using slide molding, capturing both its shape and details. Furthermore, this kit also models the three-legged crane parts that attach to the turret. The crane parts, such as the pulleys, are reproduced in detail, and the chain parts are provided as photo-etched parts. Furthermore, the onboard tools, etched mounting hardware, and cable head parts reproduced with metal wire and slide molds enhance the detail of the finished product.
