■ Description
The first U.S. Naval Self-Defense Forces patrol vessel was built by the U.S. Department of Defense (DOF) with a standard discharge of 2,000 tons. The first U.S. Navy patrol vessel was commissioned in 1960 and was designed to have excellent command capabilities and served as the flagship of the Navy from 1961 to 1985.
She was the last ship of the line to have a steep slope towards the stern, known as the "Dutch Hill".
In the field of military armour, it had a powerful impact capability, including three 54-inch 12.7 cm guns, two 50-inch 7.6 cm series fast-firing guns, and a 53-inch four-round torpedo launcher. After service, its capabilities were upgraded, and in 1968 a modifiable depth-division sonar (VDS) was installed. In 1978, the anti-submarine rocket launcher was converted from Mk.108 to a 71-inch Bofors, and the conventional short-firing torpedo launcher was converted to a 68-inch three-round short-firing torpedo launcher.
After being decommissioned from the fleet's flagship, she was converted into a special operations ship and decommissioned in 1993.
