The aircraft carrier "Shinano" was originally laid down at the Yokosuka Naval Arsenal in 1939 as the third ship of the Yamato-class battleships.
Following the loss of the main aircraft carriers in the Battle of Midway in 1942, the Shinano, which was under construction, was redesigned as an aircraft carrier.
Following the defeat in the Battle of the Philippine Sea in 1944, Yokosuka became within range of air raids, and construction was rushed to allow it to sail to Kure, and it was completed as an aircraft carrier in November.
In the same month, on its first voyage to Kure, it was sunk 100 kilometers off Cape Shionomisaki by a torpedo attack from a US submarine, losing the largest aircraft carrier in the Imperial Japanese Navy in just 10 days.
●The product is based on the shape of the ship as it was when it was completed in November 1944, and was created in 2017 with a completely new design and new molds.
●The hull is made of pre-colored parts that mimic the Yokosuka Naval Arsenal color (warship gray).
●The bottom/hull parts are divided at the waterline, so both waterline models and full-hull models can be made.
Although the actual ships were sister ships Yamato and Musashi, a distinctive feature is that dedicated parts are used instead of sharing parts to express the differences.
The aircraft included are the types that were planned.
The hull is divided into left and right halves, and the arrangement around the bow bellmouth is reproduced with accurate research.
Some parts, such as the canvas openings on the sides, are represented with highly conformable seal material.
The portholes lined up on the sides are reproduced with delicate engraving to show the difference in shape between closed and open.
The bottom part reproduces the bulge shape which is different from that of the Yamato. The parts are pre-colored in the bottom color (red), so no painting is required.
By selecting which parts to attach, you can finish the model as a waterline model or a full-hull model.
The rudder comes in two types: a round shape, the same as the conventional Yamato, and a round shape, similar to that of the aircraft carrier Taiho, as suggested in recent years.
The flight deck is made of two pieces. The parts are divided into the concrete-covered deck section and the outer edge section, making it ideal for painting.
The concrete-covered section comes as a light gray colored molded part, brighter than the battleship color.
The bridge is made as a single piece using a slide mold. All four sides have intricate sculpted details for a realistic look.
The shape of the funnel and the structure near the aft boat deck are three-dimensional based on recent documents and research.
The anti-aircraft gun mounts have strip patterns, and the hangar walls have monkey ladders, achieving a high-density model with intricate sculpting on surfaces that tend to be monotonous.
The foldable radio antenna mast is foldable, allowing you to recreate the scene during launch.
Four types of carrier-based aircraft are included: "Shiden-kai," "Ryusei," "Saiun," and "Ohka."
The Shiden-kai comes in two colors: the standard dark green and an orange color modeled after the prototype Shiden-kai II.
The landing gear for the Ryusei, Saiun, and Shiden-kai is molded as one piece, and separate parts for more detailed landing gear are also provided.
The included stickers are specially designed to accommodate a concrete-floored flight deck, unlike previous products.
The included stickers include canvas coverings for the hull sides, linoleum for the bridge floor, and white lines for the flight deck, allowing for color representation without painting.
In addition to the stickers, decals are included for painted finishes, including white lines for the flight deck and Hinomaru (Japanese national emblem) for the aircraft.
Bonus parts include adhesive-type "horizontal binoculars" and "machine gun ammunition boxes," parts for detailed finishing.
The molded parts are composed of a total of seven colors.
