■Product Description
[The German-born Silhouette Celica that challenged its undefeated rivals] The Toyota Celica LB Turbo was a Group 5 machine developed for the 1977 German Racing Car Championship (DRM). Based on the commercially available Celica Liftback 2000GT, it was fitted with aerodynamic parts such as boldly flared overfenders and a large rear wing, and most of the body panels were changed to lightweight FRP. The vehicle weight was kept down to 860kg. This body, which was modified to the point of being unrecognizable from the original, was fitted with a Toyota inline 4-cylinder turbo engine tuned by Schnitzer, a company known for tuning BMWs and other cars. The displacement was increased to 2090cc, it was made 4-valve, and further equipped with a mechanical fuel injection system and a KKK turbocharger, it produced a massive 560 horsepower. It made its debut at the 8th round of the 1977 DRM, the Hockenheim GP, and achieved a magnificent first victory in the race held in Zolder, Belgium in October of that year, defeating the ever-victorious Porsche 935. As a silhouette machine born in Japan and raised in Germany, it attracted a great deal of attention.
