【Vehicle Description】
The Honda Civic Type R (EK9), which appeared in 1997, attracted a lot of attention as the "ideal form of FF sports car" with its high-revving B16B engine and suspension that was also taken into consideration for circuit driving. Subsequent Civic Type R models have enlarged their bodies with each generation, and the engine has been increased to 2 liters and then turbocharged, evolving from a lightweight sports car into a high-performance FF machine that boasts overwhelming speed and stability.
This model is based on the 6th generation Honda Civic Type R (FL5), which debuted in 2022. While inheriting the basic configuration of a 5-door hatchback and 2-liter turbo engine that has been a characteristic of the FK2 model and later, various parts have been significantly refined. By achieving a high level of balance between sharp performance on the circuit and comfort in everyday driving, it reclaimed the title of "fastest FF at the Nürburgring" and earned high praise.
Furthermore, the design direction has been changed from the aggressive design of the previous FK8 model, and while the body is 90 mm wider than the standard model, it adopts a styling that suppresses excessive intimidation. The approachability that makes it acceptable to a wide range of users despite being a high-performance car is also a major appeal of the FL5 model.
[Model Description]
This model reproduces the "Honda Civic Type R (FL5)", a new generation Type R that has evolved into a refined presence while achieving a high level of balance between sharp performance on the circuit and comfort in everyday driving.
We have already produced a 1/43 scale FL5 model, and have also released model cars of the first generation (EK9) in 1/43 and 1/18 scales. This time, we have chosen the FL5 as the subject for our second 1/18 scale Civic Type R model.
The prototype was designed based on 3D scan data of the actual car. Rather than simply scaling up the 1/43 scale model that has already been released, we have created dedicated prototype data that has been optimized for 1/18 scale, including the curves of the body surface, the unevenness of the press lines, and the resolution of the details.
For the exterior, we have used 3D printed parts for the front grille and other parts. This has made it possible to express a deep, three-dimensional look that could not be expressed with previous resin or white metal cast parts or pressed etched parts.
For the windows, we have created molds and used injection-molded plastic parts to reproduce the same three-dimensional curves as the actual car. Because the resin body and injection-molded plastic parts have different shrinkage rates during manufacturing, we have repeatedly prototyped and adjusted the clearances so that they fit together perfectly, achieving a fitting accuracy that is just like the real car.
For the wheels, we also created separate molds and incorporated injection-molded ABS parts that have a sharp shape and excellent strength. One of the points we would like you to check out is the accuracy of the reproduction of the Brembo brake unit that can be seen through the delicate spokes.
The interior, like the exterior, was designed based on data collected from a 3D scan of the actual car. In addition to the accuracy of the design, please pay attention to the size of the seats and steering wheel. The interior is colored faithfully to the real car, including the representation of the seat belts, red seats and red floor carpet, and the differences in materials such as buckskin, leather and fabric are expressed by controlling the gloss of the paint.
The FL5 is rumored to be the last Civic Type R with a pure internal combustion engine. For Honda fans and Type R fans, this is a car that you should definitely enjoy displaying alongside the first generation (EK9).
