■Product Description
This is a 1/43 scale handmade model car of the "Porsche 911 GT1 EVO Street Version 1997 (Race Spec)" produced by "EIDOLON".
This model is a faithful reproduction of the world's only road-legal car, which was restored and modified for public roads by Lanzante based on the 1997 "Porsche 911 GT1 EVO" racing car.
【Vehicle Explanation】
The World Championship Race using Group C standard prototype sports cars came to an end in 1992 due to the enormous costs of developing and manufacturing vehicles, which led to a series of withdrawals by automobile manufacturers. GT1 was the top category that followed.
Porsche won the 1994 Le Mans race with the Dauer Porsche 962LM, which was registered as a GT1 car by exploiting a loophole in the regulations, even though the 962 was essentially a works car (a Group C vehicle). This move sparked both praise and criticism, but in 1996, they unveiled the Porsche 911 GT1, which was developed and manufactured by interpreting the regulations more directly.
The 911 GT1 is, broadly speaking, a mid-engined racing car with the front section of the Porsche 993 and the rear section of the 962, retaining the look of the base car in its headlights and taillights. The 911 GT1 performed well in its debut race, the 1996 24 Hours of Le Mans, finishing in second and third place.
In 1997, following the evolution of the 911 series from the 993 to the 996 model, the lighting was changed to that of the 996 model, and the name was also changed to 911 GT1 Evo. Approximately 30 street-legal versions of the 911 GT1 were also manufactured to comply with regulations.
The model chosen for this project is one that followed a somewhat unusual fate. Originally manufactured as a 911 GT1 Evo for competition, it is a venerable example that won numerous races, but in later years, Lanzante Limited (which led McLaren F1 to overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans) customized it into a road-going specification at the request of a customer. This model reproduces that vehicle.
[Model Description]
Among the many 911 GT1s, this is the one and only chassis #117 that was converted from a race specification to a road-going specification, and we have faithfully modeled it in 1/43 scale.
We have already produced 1/43 scale models of the 911 GT1 (runner-up in the 1996 24 Hours of Le Mans and a test car) and the 911 GT1 Evo Street Version (1997 model), but this time we are using a new prototype that is different from both of those.
The exterior is basically the same as the race specification of the 1997 911 GT1 Evo. It differs from the street version officially manufactured by Porsche mentioned above in the front fender-shaped air outlets, the wedge-shaped ducts on the side sills, and the large, square rear wing.
Furthermore, the most distinctive feature of this car is actually the interior. It differs from both the race specification and the street specification, and reproduces details such as leather-covered bucket seats that seem to offer good entry and exit, a roll cage wrapped in leather for occupant protection, and road-going specification shift knobs and door handles. It is also worth noting that the center of the seats is adorned with houndstooth fabric, which has been popular in Porsche road cars for a long time.
After retiring from racing, the car was converted to a street specification in 2005, and the current specification is a modification by Lanzante Limited to further enhance comfort on the street, at which time the coloring was also changed from silver to Porsche's original Yachting Blue.
Among the many 911 GT1s, chassis #117 has a very interesting history. It is unlikely that there will be many opportunities to make a model car of it, so we would be delighted if you would add it to your 911 collection.
