■Product Description
This is the "Mazda RX-VISION 2015," produced as a 1/43 scale handmade model car from the "EIDOLON COLLECTION."
This model faithfully reproduces the "Mazda RX-VISION," a concept car envisioned to be equipped with a rotary engine, which was unveiled at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. 」
[Vehicle Description]
Ten years will have passed in 2023 since the Mazda RX-8, the last commercially available car to be equipped with a rotary engine, ceased production. Now, the future of not only rotary engines but even reciprocating engines is uncertain, and the automotive industry is moving in unison towards electrification.
Two years after the RX-8 ceased production, Mazda unveiled a concept car called the RX-VISION at the 44th Tokyo Motor Show in 2015. The design theme was "Kodo," which was being incorporated into production cars around the same time and had been well-received. Its combination with the classic long-nose, short-deck sports car basic structure generated considerable buzz.
However, what delighted Mazda fans even more was the explanation that its form was designed with the rotary engine in mind, and that the extremely low bonnet height, unusual for a modern front-engine car, "could not have been achieved without a rotary engine." The spec sheet also included specific details such as engine = SKYACTIV-R, drivetrain = FR, seating capacity = 2, and overall length x width x height = 4,389mm x 1,925mm x 1,160mm. Naturally, many car enthusiasts jumped to the conclusion that "the return of the RX-7 is imminent!" However, since then, no further information on the RX-Vision has been updated.
【Model Description】
This model faithfully reproduces the concept car "Mazda RX-VISION" unveiled at the 44th Tokyo Motor Show in 2015.
In creating this model, we conducted thorough research on the actual car with the cooperation of Mazda, aiming for an objective design without intentionally emphasizing or omitting any shape. The RX-VISION has a simple shape, but it is a combination of gentle bulges and indentations, and grasping its shape required considerable effort. The model car was supervised by Mazda during production and received approval from the actual car's designer.
We have already released a 1/18 scale model of this car, but for this 1/43 version release, we did not simply resize it, but optimized the surface expression of the body and the expression of the press lines to match the scale, adjusted the resolution of the details, and optimized the original model data, resulting in a newly designed model.
The body color is a deep metallic red like the actual car, achieved by applying clear red over a silver base coat. The exterior's highlights don't stop there. What you should pay attention to are the carbon fiber aero parts fitted to the "lower" section of the body. These are created by applying carbon fiber pattern decals to resin parts, but applying a flat decal to a three-dimensional object with even a single wrinkle requires the skill of a master craftsman. After applying the decals, they are thoroughly dried, then a clear coating is applied, and the surface is polished to a mirror finish to achieve a texture that resembles real carbon fiber parts.
The wheels were designed using 3D CAD, and based on that, brass prototypes were machined using a CNC lathe. These prototypes were then replaced with white metal cast parts and painted. Since the RX-VISION's wheels are also made of carbon fiber, carbon fiber pattern decals are applied to the wheel surface, followed by a clear coating.
The RX-VISION's interior also boasts an elaborate design. The black-based interior features red and silver accents throughout, and carbon fiber decals are applied to the center console and rear brace bar. The leather straps in the luggage compartment are also reproduced with leather-like strips, creating an atmosphere just like the real car.
For avid Mazda car enthusiasts and Mazda rotary engine fans, even 11 years after its announcement, its appeal has not faded at all, but rather deepened, and we hope you will see this through the model.
