About the actual aircraft
The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet was developed as an advanced version of the F/A-18C/D Hornet and began deployment in 1999. Compared to the C/D model, it features a larger airframe and increased fuel tank capacity to extend its range. It is equipped with two F414-GE400 turbofan engines. In addition to a fixed armament of one 20mm M61A1 Vulcan cannon, the larger airframe has 11 additional hardpoints, which are said to be capable of handling almost all of the weapons used by the United States, including air-to-air missiles such as the AIM-120A, air-to-ground missiles such as the AGM-65E, and bombs. VFA-81 Sunliners, a strike fighter squadron of Carrier Air Wing 1 based at Naval Air Station Oceana, operates the single-seat F/A-18E. It has proven itself as a multirole aircraft capable of performing a variety of missions.
