About the actual vehicle
During World War II, the German army that invaded the Soviet Union found its movements hindered by the vast Russian landscape, which was ugly and muddy due to bad weather and frozen in winter. With their mobility severely reduced, the German army urgently sought to develop vehicles capable of traversing muddy and snowy terrain. This led to the creation of the tracked tractor developed by Steyr. The vehicle, known as the RSO (Eastern Tracked Tractor) from the German initials, began mass production in November 1942. It played an active role in transporting materials and towing anti-tank guns. Its mobility and reliability quickly earned it high praise, and approximately 23,000 units were produced. While the RSO had a driver's cab and a cargo bed, several variations were also developed using the same chassis. Self-propelled guns were also developed and saw action.
About the Kit
This is a 1/35 scale plastic model assembly kit that reproduces the RSO, a tracked tractor deployed by the German army during World War II. In particular, it models the standard type, the Steyr 470 RSO/01. The rounded cabin and cargo bed are precisely reproduced. The distinctive style is fully expressed in the model. The kit not only models the exterior but also the mechanisms such as the engine and suspension in detail. The engine, including its auxiliary equipment, and the transmission are also reproduced. Furthermore, in addition to the complex details of the suspension, the tracks use realistic, assembly-type Magic Tracks. In addition, track pads that attach to the tracks for use on snow or muddy terrain are reproduced as separate parts. The track pad parts can be finished with them stored on the side of the hull or assembled attached to the Magic Tracks. Moreover, this set also includes a remotely operated light explosives transport vehicle, the Goliath, and two figures of German engineers operating it. Diorama creation will be a lot of fun.
