About the actual vehicle
The AS42 Sachariana was a wheeled reconnaissance vehicle developed and operated by the Italian army in World War II as necessary for operations on the African front. Based on the Autoblinda AB40/41 type four-wheeled armored car, a new design body was attached to the chassis. The open-top hull had a driver's seat in the center front, and various heavy weapons could be mounted in the center of the hull depending on the application. The suspension was four-wheel drive with four-wheel independent suspension and large-diameter tires, providing high mobility. Another feature was the ability to carry a large amount of drinking water and fuel cans, 20 on each side of the hull and 4 on each side of the front, anticipating long-distance and long-duration travel and operations. Production began in 1942. It saw action not only on the North African front but also on various lines throughout the war.
