This is a 1/144 scale plastic model assembly kit that reproduces the Shinden local fighter aircraft, of which only one was prototyped by the Imperial Japanese Navy at the end of World War II.
Although it was a prototype, the Shinden is a highly popular aircraft with a design that is significantly different from existing fighters (a canard type with the engine located at the rear of the fuselage). It also appeared in a popular monster movie released in 2023, and the globally rare prototype aircraft played an active role and gained fame.
The actual aircraft was developed by the Naval Air Technical Arsenal starting in 1943 as a high-speed fighter with performance exceeding that of the Zero. The airframe was a cantilevered design, equipped with four 30mm cannons in the nose, and powered by a Mitsubishi Ha43-42 engine at the rear, it achieved a top speed of 740 km/h, and was specialized for intercepting B-29 bombers attacking the Japanese mainland. The first prototype was completed by Kyushu Aircraft in June 1945 and made its maiden flight in August, but it was never mass-produced and the war ended.
This model features not only the first prototype, but also fictional markings for the 343rd Air Group "Ken Unit," which fought valiantly in the defense of the Japanese mainland until the end of the war, assuming it had been deployed in combat. Let the Shinden, which only ever existed as a prototype, be put to action in your hands.
