About the actual aircraft
The A-6 Intruder was an attack aircraft deployed and operated by the US Navy and Marine Corps from 1963 to 1997. A major feature of the aircraft was its side-by-side two-seat cockpit design, which accommodated a large radar system in the nose. It was equipped with two Pratt & Whitney J52-P-8B turbojet engines. It achieved a top speed of 644 miles per hour. The aircraft had a total of five hardpoints: four on the underside of the wings and one on the underside of the fuselage. It could carry air-to-air missiles, air-to-ground missiles, rocket pods, and conventional bombs, with a maximum armament capacity of 18,000 pounds. It entered service in 1963 and participated in the Vietnam War. At that time, it was also stationed in Japan and could be seen at bases such as Iwakuni.
