The 4th generation Corolla (70 series), which debuted in 1979, is highly popular among fans as the last FR drive car. The body, which was the first Corolla to seriously incorporate aerodynamic characteristics, changed the atmosphere from its predecessor, adopting a design based on straight lines, and front disc brakes became standard equipment on all grades. In addition, the 1600GT sedan, which was equipped with Toyota's traditional 2T-GEU type DOHC engine and boasted a driving performance that rivaled sports cars, was one of the first to be fitted with a large impact-absorbing urethane bumper.
