The Lotus 49B, which competed in the 1968 season, is a historic machine that brought an aerodynamic revolution to F1. In addition to its innovative design that adopted a lightweight Cosworth DFV V8 engine as a stressed member, it also put into practical use at the Belgian GP a uniquely large rear wing that wrapped around the rear of the engine. This form is known as an extremely experimental specification that was unique to the early days when trial and error continued in search of the optimal downforce. This model is based on the 1968 Belgian GP specification driven by Jackie Oliver. The distinctive rear wing, which is said to have been used only at the Belgian GP in the process of leading to the high-mount wing that would later become mainstream, is the biggest highlight and makes this a highly collectible model.
