●A 1950s SF Vintage Kit Revived
This is a plastic model assembly kit, a re-release by Atlantis Models of the 1/156 vintage kit of the old Revell lunar lander, Helios.
About Helios
Helios was a spacecraft proposed in the United States in the 1950s for round trips from Earth to the Moon or a nearby planet. It had a two-stage structure, with a rocket glider using chemical fuel in the lower stage and a nuclear rocket engine in the upper stage, and an adapter section containing the astronauts' living quarters between the lower stage rocket glider and the upper stage. Initially, the lower stage rocket ascended to an altitude of 170,000 feet. At this point, the lower stage rocket glider was separated and glided back to the ground. After that, the nuclear engine section of the upper stage rocket separated and was connected by a cable to the adapter section containing the crew, and the adapter section moved to a position 1,000 feet behind the nuclear engine section. At that point, the nuclear engine started up and proceeded towards the Moon or planet. Upon arrival at its destination, the aircraft would assume a vertical position, with the crew compartment and the nuclear rocket section landing separately on the surface of the destination.
About the Model
This model is a 1/156 scale plastic model assembly kit that reproduces the Helios spacecraft, proposed in the United States in the 1950s. This is a re-release by Atlantis Models of the kit originally released by the former Revell in 1959. The two-stage rocket is modeled exactly as it was conceived. The lower glider-type rocket and the upper nuclear rocket section and crew compartment are each reproduced. The lower glider section also includes modeled landing gear that is stored inside the aircraft, and the crew compartment includes a desk inside. Furthermore, the landing gear that supports the nuclear rocket engine section during landing remains movable even after completion. In addition, the launch pad used during launch is also modeled. The kit also includes a total of 6 figures of crew members and ground crew. This is an exciting kit that allows you to recreate once again the dream of space envisioned by the engineers of the 1950s.
