■Product Description
●Build a Japanese I-class submarine with a 1960s vintage kit
This is a 1/275 scale plastic model assembly kit of the I-19, a submarine operated by the Imperial Japanese Navy during the Pacific War.
About the actual ship
The I-19 was one of the submarines built and operated by the Imperial Japanese Navy during the Pacific War of World War II. On September 15, 1942, while patrolling the Solomon Islands, it encountered a US Navy task force. Three of the six torpedoes fired by the I-19 hit the aircraft carrier USS Wasp. Not only did it sink the Wasp, but the remaining three torpedoes also hit the destroyers USS North Carolina and USS O'Brien. The North Carolina sustained significant damage, and the USS O'Brien sank, achieving a great victory. It had a standard displacement of 2398 tons and a length of 108.7m. It was equipped with two diesel engines. Its armament included one 14cm 40-caliber gun, one twin 25mm Type 96 machine gun, and six 53cm Type 95 torpedo tubes at the bow. It also carried a Type 0 small seaplane. Completed in April 1941, it was active in the Pacific theater until October 1943, engaging in commerce raiding and material transport.
