About the Actual Aircraft
The Messerschmitt Me-232 Gigant was a large transport aircraft developed and operated by the German military during World War II. It was planned as an aircraft necessary for the invasion of mainland Britain and Operation Sea Lion, which were planned at the beginning of the war, but it was later used in Operation Barbarossa on the Eastern Front and demonstrated its capabilities. The airframe was based on a steel tube space frame combined with wooden girders and covered with fabric. Its maximum payload was said to be 10 to 20 tons, and it could accommodate about 120 troops at once. It was equipped with six Gnome Rhone 14N 14-cylinder radial air-cooled engines. It made its first flight in 1942 and entered service in 1943. It was in service until 1944, and it is said that nearly 200 aircraft were produced.
