■Product Description
●A 1/72 scale kit of a US heavy bomber, over 30cm in size
About the actual aircraft
The B-17 was one of the most advanced heavy bombers of the US Army Air Corps, active from before World War II through to the end of the war. After successfully making its maiden flight in 1935, it entered service in 1938. Equipped with four 1200 horsepower Wright Cyclone engines, it was a masterpiece heavy bomber boasting heavy armament mounted on 12.7mm M2 machine guns, excellent armor protection, and a range of over 3000km with bomb loads. It was mainly used on the European front for strategic bombing missions against the German army, invading deep into mainland Germany from British bases across the English Channel. It damaged Germany's industrial capacity and contributed to its surrender, showing remarkable performance. More than 12,000 B-17s were produced, earning the nickname "Flying Fortress." Among them, the B-17F model appeared in 1942. It was equipped with the more powerful R1820-97 Cyclone engine, which produced 1380 horsepower, and the increased fuel tank capacity extended its range and bomb load.
