■Product Description
The Weserflug P.1003 is a two-seat vertical take-off and landing aircraft designed in 1938 by Weserflugzeugbau of Germany. With the support of the German Air Ministry, which showed interest in military tiltrotor aircraft, the aircraft was developed with Dr. Adolf Rohrbach as the chief designer.
The most distinctive feature of this aircraft is that it takes off vertically in the same way as a helicopter by rotating the wings 90 degrees from the middle of each wing to point the propellers straight up, and after takeoff the rotated wings are gradually returned to a horizontal position to secure forward thrust.
To ensure clearance for the huge 4-meter diameter propellers, the wings are high-wing type and are powered by a single Daimler-Benz DB600 series engine mounted behind the cockpit, with air intake from the air intake on the underside of the nose. The landing gear was retractable into the fuselage, and the cockpit had tandem seating for two people. The P.1003 was designed with an innovative concept, but the development of the complex power transmission mechanism that would power both wingtip propellers with a single engine proved impossible, and the project ended without a prototype being built.
