AMX-50
Following its defeat by Germany in World War II, French tank research and development stagnated for a long time. However, after Germany's surrender, France resumed tank development and completed the ARL-44 immediately after the end of the war. However, this tank's performance was insufficient to take on the Soviet Union's new heavy tank, the IS-3. When the French Army requested domestic arms companies to design a more powerful new tank, AMX submitted the AMX M4. However, this tank had thin armor to meet the Army's initial requirements, raising concerns about its defensive capabilities. Therefore, the AMX-50 was prototyped, which aimed to lighten the turret by installing a oscillating turret developed by FAMH and instead strengthen the armor. However, the heavy tank category gradually became outdated, and development of the AMX-50 was discontinued before it reached mass production. Note that there were multiple prototype vehicles of the AMX-50, and the AMX-50(B) is the final prototype of the low-profile type.
