■ Description
Type II-54, the last type of cruise submarine type II, entered service in 1944 with three Type II-54, Type II-56 and Type II-58 ships. The Type II-58 was launched in 1944 with the same wartime overhaul measures as Type II-1 based on Type II-22, reduced its speed by almost 5 knots, increased fuel capacity, and 1.5 times its range. The Type II-54 also increased the number of fish-laden mines to 19 and was painted with special sonar-sound absorption paints on ships and bridges.
