Isokaze was commissioned in November 1940 as the 12th ship of the Kagerō-class destroyers. During the Battle of Cape Bōno in Operation Ten-Go in April 1945, she was disabled by an attack from aircraft of the US Navy's carrier task force, but her crew and captain were rescued by the Yukikaze, and she was subsequently scuttled by gunfire from the Yukikaze.
