■Product Description
Musashi, the last battleship built by Japan, was laid down at the Nagasaki Shipyard in March 1938 as the second ship of the Yamato class. Improvements based on problems identified with the Yamato were incorporated into its construction, and its flagship equipment was further enhanced.
Like the Yamato, Musashi was a top national secret, and because it was built at a private shipyard, meticulous secrecy measures were taken. Since the 46cm main guns could only be manufactured at the Kure Naval Arsenal in Hiroshima, for counterintelligence reasons, transportation by civilian ships was avoided, and the Navy went to great lengths to build the transport ship "Kashino" specifically for transporting the 46cm guns. Commissioned in August 1942, Musashi was fitted with a Type 21 radar for anti-aircraft surveillance on its 15m rangefinder a month later, and in January 1943, it departed for the Truk Islands, a major strategic base for the Japanese Navy. In February, it replaced the Yamato as the flagship of the Combined Fleet.
