The last Japanese battleship to be built, the Wuzhou, was launched in March 1938 at Nagasaki Shipyard as the second large-scale battleship.
The 46 cm main gun could only be manufactured at Hiroshima's Shinjuku Naval Shipyard, avoiding transportation on private ships for anti-intelligence reasons, and was thoroughly unable to construct the 46 cm gun-carrying transport ship, the Shinjuku, on its own. Taken into service in August 1942, the tank launched a month later, mounted a February 1 telescope for anti-aircraft surveillance on a 15-metre gauge, and sailed to the Truck Islands, a major strategic base of the Japanese Navy, in February 1943.
