■ Description
The last Japanese-built battleship, the Murashi, was commissioned in August 1942 as the second battleship of her class. The following February, she was replaced by the Union Fleet flagship.
In April 1944, she significantly increased her anti-aircraft armament and participated in the Battle of Mariana Beach in June. During the subsequent Operation Jet One in October, black painting was applied to the deck to delay the discovery from enemy aircraft.
During the Battle of Leyte Gulf, she was attacked five times by U.S. Navy aircraft carriers, 17 bombs and 20 torpedoes, and sank in the Sea of Sichuan on July 24.
