■Product Description
The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force's new submarine, "Soryu," is the first domestically produced submarine to be equipped with an AIP (Air-Independent Propulsion) system. To improve stealth, the hull and sail are covered with sound-absorbing tiles, and the rudder uses an X-shaped rudder that offers high underwater maneuverability and a low risk of damage. In addition, it has a different appearance from existing vessels, such as the installation of a flow-straightening fillet on the front of the sail.
Of the 12 "Soryu" class submarines, the 11th ship, "Oryu," and the 12th ship, "Toryu," which entered service in 2020, are equipped with the AIP system and lithium-ion batteries instead of lead-acid batteries, further improving their underwater operational capabilities.
