■Product Description
Akashi was a ship that the Imperial Japanese Navy had long desired, and it was completed in 1939 as the only newly built ship to serve as a repair ship.
Because it had various factories on board, it adopted a horizontal deck type hull. The forward funnel was dedicated to the onboard factories, and it was equipped with five large derrick cranes for damaged parts, repair and replacement parts, and supplies.
As a repair ship, Akashi had not only a machine shop, but also factories and tool rooms for assembly, heat treatment, casting, welding, copperwork, woodworking, weapons, electrical work, etc., and possessed world-class capabilities.
