■Product Description
The Mitsubishi F-2 is a support jet fighter of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force.
This aircraft comes in a single-seat A model and a two-seat B model, with the two-seat version mainly used for training.
The Japan Air Self-Defense Force has a system in place to defend against threats such as fighter jets and bombers with the F-15J interceptor fighter, and threats such as ships and tanks with the F-1 support fighter, but the F-1 is beginning to be retired due to the aging of the airframe.
The F-2 is an aircraft jointly developed by Japan and the United States as the successor to the F-1.
This aircraft, which was called FS-X at the beginning of its development, is based on the F-16 and is designed using the latest technology available today.
Features of its exterior include a fuselage and wings that are slightly larger than those of the F-16, a larger radome to accommodate the new radar, and a three-part canopy to protect against bird strikes during low-altitude flight. Carbon composite materials, which Japan is proud of, are used in various parts of the aircraft, including the wings, reducing the aircraft's weight.
In addition, CCV technology, which reflects the experimental results of the T-2CCV aircraft, has been introduced, and the first fly-by-wire side stick system has been adopted for an Air Self-Defense Force aircraft, achieving safe and excellent flight performance.
For onboard weapons, air-to-air missiles, anti-ship missiles (such as the domestically produced ASM-2), various bombs, and external fuel tanks can be mounted at 11 stations in total on the wings and fuselage.
Unit deployment began in April 2001 with the 3rd Squadron at Misawa Air Base, and in the future, the Japan Air Self-Defense Force will deploy F-2s to replace the remaining F-1s and F-4EJ Kais, and together with the F-15J interceptor fighters, they will protect Japan's skies in the 21st century.
