The Grumman X-29A ATD (Advanced Technology Demonstrator) was developed as an experimental aircraft to test the practicality of forward-swept wing fighter jets.
A major feature of forward-swept wing aircraft is the main wing, which is angled forward and made using the latest composite material technology.
It also has excellent maneuverability at all speed ranges during dogfights.
For this reason, the control system uses the same digital fly-by-wire system as the Space Shuttle, performing calculations 40 times per second to maintain the aircraft's stability and maneuverability.
