[Approaching the Battle of Malaya, a Naval Battle That Changed History]
The Waterline series recreates various historical stories within its framework. The magnificent historical romances that unfolded on the seven seas are dramas that cannot be contained in 1/700 scale. The Prince of Wales, a new addition to the Waterline series, a staple of ship models, is one of the battleships that left its mark on history. We will approach the Battle of Malaya, a turning point in history.
The Battle of Malaya was the first naval battle in history to involve aircraft and battleships. The main players were the state-of-the-art British battleship Prince of Wales and the Japanese Navy Air Force's Type 96 and Type 1 land attack bombers. On December 10, 1941, shortly after the start of the Pacific War, the Prince of Wales was attacked by torpedoes and bombs from the Japanese Navy Air Force off the coast of Kuantan on the Malay Peninsula. Despite fighting bravely, the Prince of Wales sank into the sea. The British Navy had already recognized the threat of aircraft, and the Prince of Wales had been equipped with early warning radar and enhanced anti-aircraft weapons. Nevertheless, a battleship in operation was sunk solely by aircraft attacks. This naval battle sent shockwaves through the world's navies and marked a turning point in history, signaling the end of the era of large battleships and heavy guns. The model includes the Prince of Wales, the Type 1 Land Attack Bomber, and the Type 96 Land Attack Bomber. You will be able to recreate a page from history.
