[1/700 US Navy Battleship New Jersey]
During World War II The USS New Jersey, completed in 1943, was a battle-hardened veteran that served for nearly half a century, participating in the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and other conflicts, while repeatedly being commissioned and decommissioned, until its removal from the naval register in 1995. It was the second ship of the Iowa-class, the largest and last battleships built by the U.S. Navy. Its main armament consisted of three triple 40.6cm gun turrets, said to have been developed to counter the Japanese battleship Yamato. Furthermore, it boasted an unprecedented 212,000 horsepower, achieving a top speed of 33 knots. It truly deserved the title of the strongest battleship. Its style was also distinctive, with a length of 270.4m and a width of 33m. Its distinctive shape was a result of the width restrictions imposed to allow passage through the Panama Canal. During the war, it participated in the bombardment of mainland Japan, but underwent two modernization refits after the war. In particular, the 1981 refit equipped it with 32 Tomahawk missiles and 16 Harpoon missiles, transforming it into a guided missile battleship. After participating in the Lebanon War and other conflicts, it was decommissioned in 1991 and struck from the naval register in 1995. The New Jersey, which ended its half-century history, was moved to Philadelphia and remains there today as a floating museum.
[New Jersey's sister ship]
Battleship New Jersey The New Jersey was one of the Iowa-class battleships planned by the United States Navy. Four ships were built in the Iowa class: the lead ship Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, and New Jersey. Tamiya's Waterline Series includes the Missouri, modeled in its World War II configuration. It would be interesting to compare it to the post-war modernized New Jersey to see the differences. Furthermore, the battleship New Jersey is also available as a large 1/350 scale model, measuring 774mm in length, perfect for those who enjoy meticulous construction. ■Product Specifications
