[A mass-produced destroyer that sets itself apart from conventional Japanese destroyers]
During the Pacific War, in order to compensate for the rapidly increasing losses of destroyers, the Imperial Japanese Navy planned to build Type D destroyers with simplified structures. This is a plastic model assembly kit of the Matsu, the first ship of this type, which was completed in April 1944. The model faithfully recreates the features of the Type D destroyer Matsu, such as the simple hull and bridge composed of straight lines and planes for the purpose of shortening the construction process and saving materials, and the second funnel offset to the starboard side. Furthermore, the high-angle guns and numerous 25mm triple machine guns equipped as main armament convey the fierce battles at the end of the war when the US military had air superiority.
