[About the Vought F4U-1D Corsair]
In the latter half of the Pacific War, the US Navy's Corsair overwhelmed the Japanese military with its high speed and heavy armament.Among them, the F4U-1D appeared after the F4U-1 and F4U-1A, which were mainly deployed at Marine Corps land bases, and was the first type of Corsair to be officially adopted as an aircraft carrier-based aircraft in April 1944.It is characterized by a cockpit that was raised to improve visibility, a bubble-type canopy without window frames, and a new type of thick propeller, and in addition to six 12.7mm machine guns in the wings It was possible to mount up to 900 kg of armament and drop tanks on two pylons on the underside of the inner wings, and eight rockets on the underside of the outer wings. In February 1945, it became the first US Navy carrier-based aircraft to launch an attack on the Japanese mainland, demonstrating its capabilities as a fighter-bomber.
[About Mototags]
The US Navy deployed many aircraft towing tractors called mototags on its aircraft carriers to improve work efficiency on the flight deck. Compact and powerful, the mototag was easy to maneuver in narrow spaces, had a low center of gravity for stable driving, and was also highly durable with sturdy steel bumpers, making it ideal for operation on the narrow aircraft carriers. With a 45-horsepower engine, variable reduction gear, and double-tire rear wheels, it had a towing capacity of approximately 1.8 tons. It could be seen on many aircraft carriers, from large regular aircraft carriers to small escort carriers.
