[A masterpiece fighter aircraft with unique inverted gull wings]
The F4U Corsair, one of the masterpiece carrier-based fighter aircraft of the US Navy that appeared in World War II, is characterized by its unique wing shape called an inverted gull wing. This wing was created with the aim of equipping a large-diameter propeller while shortening the length of the main landing gear. In fact, the Corsair was equipped with a large propeller that reached a diameter of approximately 4 meters. It made the most of the 2000 horsepower generated by the Pratt & Whitney Double Wasp engine, achieving a top speed of 636 km/h. Among them, the F4U-1 was the first mass-produced model of the Corsair that remained active until after World War II, and was equipped with a canopy with many frames that resembled a birdcage. It was nicknamed the "Birdcage." Deployed in the Pacific War in February 1943, it saw combat and proved its strength and offensive capabilities with six 12.7mm cannons, becoming a formidable force for the Japanese military. The Corsair also had numerous variants, one of which was the F4U-2 night fighter. Its distinctive shape, with a radar pod near the tip of the right wing, is eye-catching. The total number of aircraft produced, including variations, is said to exceed 9,000, and it was adopted not only by the United States but also by the British and New Zealand militaries.
