■Product Description
The Yamato was the first ship of the Yamato-class battleships, the last to be built by the Imperial Japanese Navy. Its standard displacement reached 64,000 tons, far surpassing that of battleships from other countries, and it was equipped with nine 46cm guns in three triple turrets, the largest and most powerful in the world. It has etched its name in history as the largest battleship in history. Construction proceeded under strict secrecy and it was completed in December 1941. For one year from February 1942, it served as the flagship of the Combined Fleet, with Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, the commander-in-chief, on board. It sortied in the Battle of Midway in June 1942, the Battle of the Philippine Sea in June 1944, and the Battle of Leyte Gulf in October. Then, in April 1945, it was lost in an attack by American naval aircraft en route to Okinawa. The Yamato never had the opportunity to demonstrate its capabilities against American and British battleships. However, the innovative shipbuilding technologies cultivated during its construction became the foundation for Japan's postwar recovery as a shipbuilding kingdom.
