■Product Description
[The "Tank of the Sky" that pushed back the German army]
The Ilyushin IL-2 Sturmovik was a representative ground attack aircraft of the Soviet army during World War II. It was the aircraft that the Soviet army needed most when the German-Soviet war broke out in June 1941, and Prime Minister Stalin himself encouraged its production, resulting in the mass production of more than 36,000 units, the most in military aircraft history, by the end of the war. In order to keep the weight increase down while ensuring bulletproof capabilities, the cockpit, engine, and fuel tank were all grouped together. A key feature is that the bulletproof steel plates covering the fuselage also serve as structural components. Production of the single-seat version began in March 1941, but a two-seat version with a rear-mounted swivel gun was introduced to counter German interception. Subsequently, in the latter half of 1943, an improved version appeared with the sweep angle of the outer wings changed from the previous 5 degrees to 15 degrees. It inflicted devastating damage on German tank units from low altitudes, and together with the T-34 tank, it sealed the Soviet victory. ■Product Specifications
