■Product Description
[Tamiya's newly developed product precisely reproduces the F-35B in vertical landing state!!] The F-35 Lightning II is a multirole fighter developed based on a plan to consolidate the various tactical aircraft operated by the US Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps into one type of aircraft and its derivatives. Among the three types of F-35s that were developed simultaneously—the F-35A for the Air Force, the F-35B for the Marine Corps, and the F-35C for the Navy—the F-35B is the most ambitious. Developed as a successor to the AV-8B Harrier II operated by the Marine Corps, the F-35B achieves short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) with a lift fan installed between the cockpit and the engine, and a 3-bearing rotating duct nozzle that can change the direction of the engine nozzle. Furthermore, it also possesses supersonic flight capability, stealth capabilities, and high situational awareness capabilities through sensor fusion.
Due to its characteristics of being mainly launched from light aircraft carriers and amphibious assault ships, most adopting countries possess ships equipped with flight decks. As of 2023, the UK, which operates Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers, and Italy, which operates light aircraft carriers such as the Cavour, have introduced the F-35B in both their air and naval forces, and deployment is underway.
