■Product Description
[A fighter-bomber that played a key role in the carrier force]
In the latter half of World War II, the US Navy's Corsair overwhelmed the Japanese military with its high speed and heavy armament. Among them, the F4U-1D was the first to be officially adopted as a carrier-based aircraft in April 1944. It is characterized by its semi-bubble canopy without window frames, a propeller that widens from the root, and a cockpit that is raised to improve visibility. In addition to six 12.7mm machine guns in the wings, it was possible to attach up to 2,000 pounds of armament or drop tanks to two pylons on the underside of the inner wings, and eight rockets to the outer wings. In February 1945, it played a key role in the carrier force, including being the first US carrier-based aircraft to attack the Japanese mainland.
