■Product Description
[An evolved model that won the fierce battles of the Solomon Islands]
The Corsair is a masterpiece fighter aircraft representing the United States Navy, equipped with a 2,000-horsepower P&W R-2800 engine, a huge propeller with a diameter of approximately 4m, and a fierce inverted gull wing. Following the first mass-produced model, the F4U-1, the improved model that appeared in the summer of 1943 is called the F4U-1A. Improvements were made, such as the adoption of a semi-bubble canopy to improve visibility, and it was also capable of bombing missions with bombs of up to 1,000 pounds. It fought fierce battles with the Japanese Navy's Zero fighter in the Solomon Islands and contributed to the Allied victory. The Corsair continued to fly on the front lines from the latter half of World War II to the Korean War, and evolved into a fighter-bomber by utilizing its superior payload capacity. The F4U-1A was an important type that marked a turning point in that evolution.
