■Product Description
[Teardrop-shaped canopy ensures 360-degree visibility]
The Spitfire, a masterpiece aircraft that saved Britain in World War II. Among them, the Mk.IX, which became the main fighter of the Royal Air Force in the latter half of the war, had its engine replaced with an American-made Packard Merlin 266, resulting in the Mk.XVI(16). Many of these were equipped with an E-wing with two 20mm cannons and two 12.7mm machine guns, and a larger rudder. During production, the teardrop-shaped canopy was introduced to improve rearward visibility. The Pee was adopted, and the shape of the rear fuselage was changed accordingly. In addition, many aircraft had an additional fuel tank at the rear in addition to the main fuel tank in front of the cockpit. 1,054 aircraft were mass-produced from September 1944 to around July 1945, and during the war they were deployed on the European front and fought bravely as fighter-bombers alongside the Mk.IX. After the war, they continued to fly in the Royal Air Force in their home country until the early 1950s, and were also used by the Belgian and Greek Air Forces, among others.
