■Product Description
[Exploring the Best Spitfire with the Ultimate Model]
The Spitfire is a masterpiece aircraft representing Britain. Among them, the Mk.VIII was developed as an improved version of the Mk.V, the main fighter in the first half of World War II. The engine was replaced with the new Rolls-Royce Merlin 60 series, and various improvements were made to the airframe with the future in mind. These included the adoption of a larger radiator to match the Merlin 60 series, the standard installation of air filters, the addition of fuel tanks in the wings, the change from a fixed tail wheel to a retractable one, and the shortening of the ailerons and the enlargement of the rudder and elevators. Due to these numerous improvements, the start of production was delayed, and it lost its position as the main fighter in Europe to the Mk.IX, which was developed in a short period of time. However, from mid-1943, the Mk.VIII was sent to the Mediterranean and Pacific theaters, and played an active role as a valuable asset not only for the Royal Air Force but also for the US Army Air Corps, the Royal Canadian Air Force, and the Royal Australian Air Force.
