The German jerrycan boasts a high level of perfection as a fuel can due to its pursuit of functionality. There were two main types: the early type with a simple X-pattern press line, and the mid-to-late type with a more complex pattern to increase strength. The early type was mainly used from the Polish campaign to North Africa and the early stages of the Russian campaign, and some continued to be used until the latter half of the war.
