[An innovative, high-speed armored vehicle in an affordable size]
The Type 16 Mobile Combat Vehicle is a wheeled armored vehicle of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, which began procurement in 2016. It was developed as a key component of rapid deployment regiments, capable of quickly reaching their destination with its high mobility. Equipped with eight large-diameter tires, it has a 570 horsepower diesel engine and a top speed of 100 km/h. Rapid troop deployment is possible through self-propelled movement on highways or transport by aircraft. The main gun, a domestically produced 105 mm rifled gun, achieves high accuracy even when firing while moving thanks to its excellent fire control system. Its main mission is to provide fire support to infantry units and attack armored vehicles, and deployment to various units is progressing.
