■Product Description
[A masterpiece destroyer boasting high speed and heavy torpedo armament]
Destroyers were the cornerstone of the Japanese Navy's torpedo squadrons. The Shimakaze was a state-of-the-art ship that would carry on the legacy of the next generation. It was equipped with a high-temperature, high-pressure steam turbine engine that produced an output of 75,000 horsepower on a hull of approximately 3,000 tons. It recorded the fastest trial speed of 40.9 knots for a Japanese ship at the time and boasted high offensive power equipped with three twin 12.7cm guns and three quintuple torpedo tubes. Its first battle was the Kiska Island evacuation operation in July 1943. After that, it was transferred to the Southern Front and fought valiantly, making use of its high speed performance. Its last battle was a transport operation in Ormoc Bay, Leyte Island in November 1944. The Shimakaze-class destroyers were never built, due to the changing times where aircraft carriers and aircraft became the main force in naval warfare, and the inability to mass-produce high-temperature, high-pressure boilers as the war situation worsened. Nevertheless, the Shimakaze fully demonstrated its capabilities during its short lifespan, etching its name in history as the pinnacle of destroyers, boasting the fastest and most powerful performance.
