《About Fukuiraptor》
Fukuiraptor, a new species of carnivorous dinosaur discovered for the first time in Japan, was found in Fukui Prefecture, known for its excavation and research of dinosaur fossils and also called the "Dinosaur Kingdom." This dinosaur, found in the Kitadani Formation of the Tetori Group, a geological layer dating back approximately 120 million years, located in Katsuyama City in the northeastern part of Fukui Prefecture, was given the official scientific name "Fukuiraptor kitadaniensis" in 2000. "Fukuiraptor" means "predator of Fukui," and "kitadaniensis" means "from the Kitadani Formation." Its body size was about 4.7m, but it is thought that adult Fukuiraptor grew even larger. From its large claws on its forelimbs, sharp teeth, and long hind legs that suggest high athletic ability, it is thought that it preyed on herbivorous dinosaurs such as Fukuisaurus that lived in the same area.
