The so-called gullwing doors, which open upwards, can be said to be one of the elements of a super sports car. The Mercedes-Benz 300SL, a sports car nicknamed "Gullwing," debuted in 1954. With its high performance and attractive form, which adopted the mechanism of a prototype sports car that performed brilliantly in the 1952 races, it quickly captivated celebrities around the world. In particular, the multi-tubular space frame was cutting-edge racing technology at the time. Because this frame is located on the side of the body, it was not possible to have normal side-opening doors, and the gullwing doors were adopted as a structural necessity. In addition, the body transformed from the smooth form of the prototype with low air resistance to an elegant form befitting a luxury sports car. It is also known as one of the fastest cars equipped with the world's first inline 6-cylinder gasoline engine with in-cylinder fuel injection that produced 215 horsepower, and it still attracts the envy of fans today.
