During the Zero War, which continued through the Pacific War, Type 2 was followed by Type 3 and entered service in the fall of 1942. The engine was converted to a two-speed supercharged prototype, shortening the main wing edge by about 50 cm and making it angular. The top speed, as well as the lifting force, increased the Type 1 and improved the rapid-deployment and rolling performance, and boasted high air combat performance.
