It featured a rounded cast upper hull and was equipped with a long-barreled 37.5 caliber 75mm tank gun, proving its effectiveness in supporting attacks. It was equipped with a 350 horsepower air-cooled radial engine repurposed from aircraft. 6,281 M4A1s were produced and deployed in large numbers on the North African front, the Italian front, and the Normandy landings, fighting valiantly by utilizing its superior reliability and practicality, which surpassed that of German tanks.
