■Product Description
[A mobile mortar position that played an active role by utilizing its firepower and mobility] The U.S. Army, recognizing the superior off-road capabilities of the half-track, began research into it in the late 1920s. As mechanization of the Army became a crucial and urgent issue during World War II, they produced over 40,000 half-tracks, including the M2 and M3 series, during the war. They also mass-produced self-propelled guns using the half-track chassis, equipped with various weapons. The M21 Motor Carrier, officially adopted in June 1943, is one such example. It utilized the M3 half-track chassis and featured an open-top fighting compartment equipped with an 81mm mortar. A key feature of the M21 was its mortar's rig, which rested on rails on the fighting compartment floor, allowing for a 60-degree firing angle from the vehicle. It also carried a 12.7mm Browning heavy machine gun, as well as a bazooka, numerous shells, and mines. It was truly a mobile mortar position, and its firepower and mobility proved invaluable in battles such as the Battle of Okinawa. Furthermore, it continued to be used for training until around 1960. [Model Specifications] ●This is a 1/35 scale plastic model kit of the American M21 motor carrier. ●Total length when completed: 183mm. ●The flat-paneled body, the open-top fighting compartment loaded with numerous rounds, and the cockpit are modeled with great detail. ●The complex chassis, unique to the American half-track with front-wheel drive, is also very satisfying to build. ●In addition to a wealth of accessories including a precisely reproduced 81mm mortar, bazooka, seats, etc., it comes with a driver and three American soldiers in firing positions.
